Community Mural
In fall 2023 glass artist Kat Looby and Eekta Trienekens were asked to design and execute a community tile mural for the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo. This mural is at the moment (May 2024) being installed. Below some pictures of the process, volunteers at work, tiles made by the community and the partially installed mural. Most tiles were made during Waterloo's Lumen festival (2023) and Winterloo (2024) some special tiles (fish) were made by the people attending Gather at the Gallery, a public program for members of our community aged 55+.
Working on the mural is a lovely experience as we see many people walking by and commenting on the work. Some of these regular passersby have contributed to the mural by dropping off recently broken favourites from their own collection.
You can come see the mural on the trail side of the Gallery's building.
We have been very lucky to have the help of many fantastic volunteers realizing this huge project.
This project is funded in parts by the Waterloo Region Arts Fund and the Uptown Waterloo BIA.
